Everything You Need To Know About Renting A Bike While You Are On Vacation

Going on vacation is a lot of fun and being able to see the landscape of the place you are visiting in an up-close and personal way can make the trip even more enjoyable. Many people enjoy renting bikes when they are vacationing and riding them around town to see all of the sights. If you have never rented a bike before, it is a fairly simple process. The guide below walks you through a few things you need to know about renting a bike to use for touring.

Consider How the Bike Operates

The first thing you need to do is to find a bike that will be easy for you to operate. Bike rental shops often have many different bike options available. If you are not an avid biker, choosing a mountain bike for rent may not be the best idea because they have gears that you change as you ride. If you do not know how or when to change the gears, you will more than likely be spending a majority of your ride trying to figure out how to operate the bike properly. Be sure to choose a bike that will be easy for you to ride so you can enjoy the sights and not focus on the bike as much.

Consider the Height of the Bike

Once you have found the right style of bike for you, consider the height of the bike. You want to be sure that the bike will be comfortable for you to ride. Try straddling the bike to see if you can touch the ground while you are on the bike. You should not be on your tip toes because it can be dangerous to not be able to properly balance yourself when you stop the bike because you could fall over.

Read the Contract Thoroughly Before Signing It

Before signing the rental contract, be sure to read it thoroughly. You want to be sure that you know how long the rental is for and that you agree to any insurance the shop offers to you. Many people assume that they will not need the insurance, but if anything goes wrong, such as denting a rim on the bike, you could be responsible for paying for it. The insurance is often very affordable and worth investing in when you rent the bike.

Be sure to take a phone with GPS with you on your ride. This will allow you to be sure that you do not get lost and can keep track of the time so that you are not late returning the bike.
